JAYHUN DISTRICT AND ITS TOURISM CHANCES

A brief historical information. It shouldn’t be forgotten, that the word “Jayhun”, which is referred to Amu river (Amu Darya), is also used as a common noun for expressing any kind of wide spread affluent stormy river. From the manuscripts of ancestors one can easily find, that by using the word “Jayhun” sometimes Amu, sometimes Neil, sometimes Otil (Volga) and most of the time Syr Darya have been mentioned. In the ancient times here was a city named Omuya, Omuy. Jayhun as an independent district has been established on January 19, 1936 on the basis of the lands of Panj and Jabbor Rasulov districts.

         Jayhun district is widely spread to the southern part of Vakhsh valley. The district weather condition is formed under the influence of the warmer climate of the region. Winter season, although is light and short, may cause a sudden natural phenomenon, like much snowfall and cold temperatures. The average air temperature in January is + 2-4 degrees Celsius and its coldest day is recorded at -23.5 degrees Celsius. Spring season is wet and rainy. The district summer is warm and dry, the air average temperature is from 33 to 46 degrees Celsius warm. The annual average moisture is from 120 to 350 mm. The district arable lands are very favorable for the cultivation of the heat loving plants. The district is located in a seismological hazardous area.

         Attractive travelling areas. There are sightseeing places for the tourists and bikers in the district, that have such titles as: the statue of “Mother”, the statue of “Abuabdullohi-Rudaki”, the statue of “The Martyrs of the World War II, and others.

         It should be noted, that the Sanatorium “Dusti” of Jayhun district is one of the fascinating and high level resting centers in Khatlon region and its activity is seasonal. Annually to the above-mentioned sanatorium not less, than 400 sick people from all parts of Tajikistan come to cure their sickness. There are medical services, like treatment with the medical herbs by using the natural herbs, power (electric) shower, massage, treatment with a mineral clay, shower in the mineral water, treatment with a wax and Tibetan injecting in the sanatorium, that the local and foreign subscribers can make the use of them with the available prices.

         Infrastructure service. There are transport routes to all parts of the district and outside of it with the available prices, in Jayhun district. At the same time, there are shops of different types of goods in all the villages and block.  As well as, the 2 markets named “Dusti” (friendship) and “Safar” provide services to the local people and guests. In these markets, the traders mainly supply clothes, food, agricultural products and other essential items of people to the customers.

    The level of medical care also fits the modern conditions and the number of medical institutions (centers) is 54 in Jayhun district. At the same time, there are more than 22 pharmacies (drug-stores) in the district, which have the certificate of quality.

 There are two hotels under the titles “Izzat” and “Oriyon” have opened their doors to the visitors in Jayhun district and their conveniences fit the modern requirements.

         Agriculture is developed much in Jayhun district and the peasants are engaged in husbandry and the early plant of   garden vegetables. Jayhun can be considered the gate of southern part of Tajikistan .The district is developing, has the small and medium-sized industrial enterprises and cultivates the exportable agricultural products. These enterprises are equipped with the new economical (saver) technologies in the attractive and favorable commercial and investment environment, with the good social and infrastructure terms and conditions, in the “Free economic zone” of  industrial and commercial development are developing and active in prosperity. Here are multi-ethnic, laborious and enlightened inhabitants living well in the clean ecology area.

         Folk craftsmanship and skills. At the same time, the people of Jayhun district have a great deal of interest in the house holding engagements, like knitting, spinning, embroidering, painting on the materials, needlework, felt production, wooden work of the household utensils, blacksmith’s work, jewelry, as well as pottery from the ancient time.

                It should be noted, that among the above-mentioned folk crafts, one of the most popular craftsmanship is a blacksmith’s work. The district blacksmiths have brought their occupation perceptivity from generation to generation till our days and these sincere peculiarities to the everlasting folk craftsmanship for sure attract the attention of the tourists. In fact, the handicraft products of Jayhun blacksmiths can attract the attention of the visitors of our beloved country Tajikistan in the future too. From Abdurahim Ismoilov’s (the local blacksmith) point of view, the pure iron tools have two ways of producing. One is through the method of heating up the shaped irons and beating them up with the hammer and mallet and turning them into the desired instruments and the other one is by the method of melting and filling them in the boxes of the special forms for house holding utensils.

         The particularities of the district. Jayhun district, along with the other agricultural achievements, also is known as the main supplier of the country’s market with the highest quality of lemon. Due to an appropriate climate of lemon planting, Jayhun lemons grow well and differ with their unique taste and size from the lemons of the other areas.

         One of the other peculiarities of the district is, that the district has many descendants of Badakhshan region, that with their mountain folk traditions and customs, they have given much more popularity to Jayhun district.
