ABDURAHMONI JOMITHE AREA OF THE VIGOROUS PEASANTS

A brief historical information. Abdurahmoni Jomi district was established on August 29, 1930 in the north of Khatlon region and borders with Yovon, Khuroson and Kushoniyon districts. The total area of ​​the district is 68,2 thousand square meters; its population is more than 168,1 thousand people. The district center (its center is a town council of Abdurahmoni Jomi) is far from the center of Khatlon region – Bokhtar city for 36 km and from Dushanbe city for 86 km. The district earlier was called different names, like: Aral, Kuybishev and Khojamaston. By the decision of Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan, from February 12, 2004 the name of Khojamaston district was changed into Abdurahmoni Jomi district. There are 1 town council and 7 village councils in the administrative territory of the district.

         Attractive travelling areas of the district. There are many sightseeing places in the district, such as: historical monuments and memorial plagues, “Otashi abadi” (Eternal fire) square and an area with a fresh weather and clean nature of an irrigation reservoir.

         Infrastructure service. There are a Culture Palace, 3 cultural centers of the urban type, 3 cultural centers of the rural type, 1 central library, 11 rural libraries, children’s art school and a group team of talents “Ghuncha” (bud) and “Shabcharogh” (the night light) active to provide cultural services to people. The same time, there are three markets of the consumable goods for people, two markets of the constructional materials, two hotels and several canteens, which serve the people in the territory of the district. There are 63 General secondary schools, 1 lyceum of Gifted Children and 6 Preschool institutions are active in the district. The main business of the district’s population is mainly agriculture and the farmers plant cotton, cereals, vegetable products; keep gardening and grape-gardening, and so on. Also, a part of the population is in the field of stock-raising.

Folk craftsmanship and skills. There are various folk craftsmanship are widely developing in Abdurahmoni Jomi district, such as: carpeting; “Atlas” and “Adras” (types of silk materials) textiles; wooden made products (wooden dishes, cradles, musical instruments like: “Dutar”); blacksmith work and needlework.

         The particularities of the district. Abdurahmoni Jomi district differs with its own uniqueness. If other cities and districts of the region mainly stand above the sea and river levels of Tajikistan, Abdurahmoni Jomi district stands for 11meters below Vakhsh river level. The district is surrounded by the mountains and hills, and one can comfortably get much pleasure to enjoy the uniqueness of the four seasons of the year. Also, the representatives of the country major localities live in the city and villages of the district, where the tourist can closely get to know about the traditions and rituals of Khatlon people during his/her traveling and biking/cycling.
