HAMADONI – THE YOUNGEST DISTRICT OF KHATLON REGION

A brief historical information. On September 15, 1950 Presidium of Supreme Council of SSR Tajikistan has signed a decree on establishing a new district with the name «Chubak» in the region Kulob. Then they started to relocate people from mountainous places to the lowlands, which has had found its momentum some years before, and the number of population of the district has risen from this and thus the name Chubak was changed to “Moscow”. Until February 12, 2004 the district was named Moscow. District’s new name was selected with the decree of Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the decision of National Assembly of the Supreme Assembly of the Republic of Tajikistan for the memory of great Tamika philosopher Mir Said Alii Hamadoni.

Mir Said Alii Hamadoni district is located on the bank of Panj Tajikistan and Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. This river origins from the crowns of the mountains of Pamir and Darvaz, reaches this valley, and pacifies from its upstream upheaval and impetuous flow. In the beginning of 50th of the 20 century a channel was dug to irrigate the lands of the district.

Mir Said Alii Hamadoni district neighbors from the south and west in the length of more than 100 km with the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, 9 km with Farkhor district and from east in a length of 150 km with the district of Shamsiddini Shohin. With the constructive labor of people relocated from the mountains Mir Said Alii Hamadoni district has changed from a marshy place to a flowering garden in the course of some 4-5 years.

Attractive travelling areas. One of the natural reserves and pride of inhabitants of the district is Khojamumin salt reserve. Salt mountain of Khojamumin is located on the left bank of the Yakhsu River. This mountain is one of the largest reserves of salt in the world. The diameter of the salt mountain is more than 8 km, and is located on an altitude of 1338 meters above sea level, and 700 meters above level of Yakhsu river. This site is one of the best travel destinations in Khatlon.

Infrastructure service. The district has a market, a hotel with 10 rooms, diners and a passenger terminal. The distance of motor road from the center of Mir Said Alii Hamadoni to Dushanbe is 180 km.

Folk craftsmanship and skills. Mir Said Alii Hamadoni district is famous for its skilled local craftsmen, artists, poets and other talented intellectuals in the whole country and abroad. It were the following folk crafts that have brought up the locals generation from generation, have gifted great taste to them and have made them live close to the beauty of the environment: spinning, tanning, footwear sewing, forging, hewing of wooden dishes, jewelry making, potting, cradle hewing, carpentry, wood carving and others, being the crafts that have not yet missed their features.

The particularities of the district. Hamadoni is a part of the regional border districts and from where the lands of Afghanistan is seen. This district is located in a place, where one being located behind the safe border of our peaceful country, may be able to get acquainted with the daily life of war hit people in Afghanistan, with a pair of binoculars, or without them.
